Before heading over to Baltimore I had a lot of time to kill in DC. I hadn’t told a lot of people I’d be around, mainly because I was really unsure what I was going to do. I hung out in Dulles for awhile, ate some breakfast and blogged.
From there I headed over to DC, I realized that like a typical Seattleite, I had forgotten my sunglasses. Ugh. I didn’t want to lug all my bags through the streets, so I got off metro at Friendship Heights, went into the New Balance store and bought the cheapest pair of running sunglasses they had. Problem solved. I hailed an Uber car from there to get to AU. Best decision ever. The driver was very nice, the ride was easy and I was on campus in no time.
I headed directly to Coach’s office, but sadly he wasn’t there. I went down to the gym, got a day pass in order to use the shower and headed out the door, 17 miles was on my agenda. As I ran down the street was flooded with memories. Right before Battery Kemble Park I had to stop due to a traffic light, I looked to my left and there was an ex’s old house, it was for sale. I smiled to myself, remembering the late night trips, his roommates, the drama. This was the first stop on memory lane. Down through the old trail I went, it amazed me that roots I used to jump over 8 years ago were still right there.
So are the “hills” I can’t believe I used to think that this was steep! While in the trail I ran into Lauren Centrowitz, who was very surprised to see me. She let me know that her dad was on his way to NY so I had just missed him. I went on my way, got lost and then headed to the actual streets to get down to the monuments.
From there I took a trip on some other old routes, around the tidal basin, and then up through the zoo.
This run was slow, but therapeutic. I loved these miles down memory line. I didn’t get all 17, but 15.5 was good enough to call it a day.
Afterwards I was famished. I headed to the marketplace and texted my buddy so we could meet up before I had to head to Crystal City to catch a ride with Erika from The Sweet Life. You would think that getting in a car with a near stranger would be nerve wracking, luckily we have a lot in common and even through a lot of traffic the time passed quickly. When we got to Baltimore we met up with our other roommates, Sana from SuperSana and Gabby from Gabby’s Gluten Free. Erika organized a great group of girls, and I’m really lucky to be rooming with bloggers who are more experienced and super nice.
More to come about the conference and a day filled with CrossFit, Reebok and meeting a whole lot of bloggers, I’m now off to bed so I can wake up early for an easy going 14 miles.
